Letting Bobo the Turtle go Free!

We were just about ready to leave, and get in the car to drive home after the weekend and we saw this little turtle in the parking lot next to the curb trying to get back to the wild or so we assumed. So we put him in a bucket and released him back into the river. My daughter named him Bobo and even declared that we loved him!? She's so funny. See Bobo for yourself!

2011 Michigan City Powerboat / Superboat Races

Here's the compiled Michigan City Powerboat Races and pictures video. This is without any background music. What you hear is what you get. There were only a few clips that I left out due to swearing. On our way to the races we almost turned back due to the weather. The skies opened up for a beautiful afternoon but closer to chicago on our way back it got nasty again. So much that we had to hide in US Steel's inlet. Enjoy!

Headed back to the Marina Running down the lake

headed back to the marina after a LONG great weekend out on the boat. The boat performed well and I was heading back when another guy from Marine Services came up right behind me within 30 feet of me. I'm guessing to wave, but if I'd have let him pass me I'd have been swallowed up in his wake! So I hammered down and kicked the pig. Great to have two great running engines again. I'll never take it for granted again. CHECK YOUR GAUGES EVERYONE!! OFTEN!!! Check your belts, pulleys, water levels and change your oil and filters often!

Tidal Changes

A High Tide Lifts All Boats is all about getting boaters to respect the water depths of their respective areas to not damage

Today on the news a cruise ship in the Mediterranean that ran aground gouging it's side and taking on water. The captain of which is now in jail for not only failing to do his job as a captain but also for abandoning ship before making sure that his passengers and crew were all safe.

The root of this I can't help but think that the tide had something to do with the accident. I mean, it's a cruise ship. They run the same course every time with every group of people I'd bet. But rather than this being a case of running off course, I'd guess that someone didn't check the charts or time of day and the depth of the sea in this area based on the tides. It's truly a shame to see such a loss of a ship like this. It looked like it must have been quite a cruise liner.

No matter what size boat you operate, you have to know the waters you are in. Simply pushing through the water blindly is just a wreck waiting to happen.

My heart goes out to the families of all the lives lost and to those whom are still missing.

I'd Rather be on my boat

Here is my intro page to tell all about me and my boats.

Welcome to my Homepage! I am the DotComd Guy. I am the owner and founder of the Hot Media Group. Creator of HotMediaDeals.com which encompases all of the hot___deals sites such as HotBoatDeals.com, HotRodDeals.com, and HotAutoDeals.com just to name a few. There are 15 sites in all that are available for anyone to use. Starting on January 1st, 2012 we are offering our own lineup of very powerful websites that utilize our website tools and then publish to sites such as www.IdRatherBeOnMyBoat.com. The website hosting is done free of charge but in order to use this feature you need your own domain name, and you must pay a $50/yr fee for use of our system in this manner. You can have up to 25 pages on your website, and post pictures, links, stories, youtube.com videos, videos from our system, and more... I'm very excited to be able to offer you your own website! Interested, Call me, the DotComd Guy at 630-215-9788 to get your own website today!

Something else that I want to mention is that these are very powerful websites built utilizing CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) which in a nutshell means that you can have your website look however you want! Each and every website comes with a standard yet flexible layout that can be customized pretty well. If you want a more advanced design, you can either come up with your own CSS and pay a $20 insertion fee, or have our designers work with you to design a look that is appealing to you. We have a few different authorized CSS designers rangeing in price from $40-$90 per hour. When having our designers work with you the CSS insertion fee is waived. I mean, we have to pay for all this somehow...

Government Cuts Explained

This rather brialliantly cuts thru all the political doublespeek we get. It puts it all into a much better perspective.

This rather brilliantly cuts thru all the political doublespeak we get. It puts it into a much better perspective.

Lesson # 1:

* U.S. Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000
* Fed budget:           $3,820,000,000,000
* New debt:               $1,650,000,000,000
* National debt:       $14,271,000,000,000
* Recent budget cuts:    $38,500,000,000

Let's now remove 8 zeros and pretend it's a household budget:

* Annual family income:                                $21,700
* Money the family spent:                             $38,200
* New debt on the credit card:                      $16,500
* Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
* Total budget cuts:                                            $385

Got It ?????

OK now Lesson # 2: Here's another way to look at the Debt Ceiling:

Let's say, You come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood....and your home has sewage all the way up to your ceilings.

What do you think you should do ......

Raise the ceilings, or pump out the crap?

Your choice is coming Nov. 2012.

As we find some hard to find parts that many people look hard for, we will post them to this page as well as our inventory list on Hot Boat Deals.  If you are looking for complete boats, yachts or other watercraft, we have Yachts for Sale on our main website.

Thank you for visiting our page.

Sincerely, The Ritters

Nauti-Boy & Nauti-Girl T-Shirts

Today i sold two nauti-boy t-shirts on hotwearables.com!

Today I sold my first couple of t-shirts on a new shopping cart website that I had set up to help support and spread the word about hotboatdeals.com and boasty.org.  The first to go was a white as well as a blue t-shirt that says "Nauti-Boy" across the chest.  They're pretty basic in nature but are good shirts made by glidden.  I have several from BOASTY that are still in fine shape.

For the Nautical enthusiast, It's close to a must have!  I plan on making more for myself to promote the line as well.  If you're a fan of HotBoatDeals.com and want to help us succeed, hop on over to www.HotWearables.com and order a few.

Thanks!  DotComd...

2006 bayliner 245 cruiser

2006 Southport Marina

Here is my intro page to tell all about me and my boats.

This is my family as it was in 2006 before the addition of my litle bLake Cruzer...

This was ellie Meg and tracy on the boat in Kenosha. Boy we miss that fast boat!

wow

yeah!

I have worked on thePort City Princess for 15 years. I am finally the lead Captain. WOW! I have done everything on the boat but spend lots of time on the wheel. Now I get my chance to drive the boat full time.

all about Capt Ellen

just a bit about me and what i do

I have lived near Lake Michigan for most of my life. Started boating at the age of 2. Opperated boats as soon as I could manage the Oars on the Row boat. I have opperated many small boats. I graduated from High School in northern Ill. Spent 4 years in the Navy. Graduated college from Michigan State University BA degree in Education. Enjoyed my folks boats. Started working on the Port City Princess 15 years ago. Just one night!

I earned my 100 ton Masters licence, am a USCG Approved instructor. I am currently waiting to get approved for a 150 ton-200 ton licence. We"ll be adding a 200Ton class soon. Three Years Ago I got involved with Sea Tech Marine Training. I truely enjoy teaching Captains Classes. Sea tech is a unique school. We travel to different sites and hold classes mostly on weekends. It takes 56 hours of class time to be egible for an oupv (6 pack) captain. Add 24 more and get your masters class licence, tonnage added to your licence. We include Assistance towing with our Masters course. We teach Sat. and Sundays for 3 weekends and give a Coast Guard Approved exam on site sometime after the 3rd weekend. Sometimes we have to wait a couple of weeks to run the Masters class. but depending on how many folks want to take the masters we don"t wait months.

Added to all of that I have 2 grown children and am trying to get my grand kids started to love the water and boating.

New Marina Shopping

I recently went shopping for a new marina that could save me some costs this year. Here's what I found.

A couple of years ago I went shopping for a new marina closer to Chicago.  I had been in the northern Illinois / Wisconsin Border area for about 5 years with my boat and was getting bored with it.  Luckily that when you have a boat, you're not married to a marina like as if you had a mortgage with a house.  You can move your boat to stay in any marina that you want.

I'd been wanting to get into the Chicago Marina system for years but in order to do so, you have to be on a waiting list for years or get a mooring can in one of the Chicago Harbors and then put in for a transfer.  The slip would be about $5,000+ per year (if I were a resident).  As a NON Resident, the rate is closer to $9,000.00 per year.  A little bit better than that is a slip in Hammond which has the cheapest fuel around, a slip is about $4000 per season resident or not.

As an alternative to a Chicago slip, i've found slips on the Cal Sag River / Canal which is only 8-14 miles from the lake and then 13.5 miles to downtown Chicago.  Round trip and spending the weekend in the playpen would only cost about $100 round trip.  Even less if we idled it all the way there and back.  Also, if we took the river, it's a 2 hour trip by river back to the marina.  Either way we have to do at least one lock.

That was a couple of years ago that I wrote most of what was above.  Now that I've spent a couple years on the river, I have a wealth of knowledge to lend to other boaters.

1/2/2012
The marina which I had chose for the 2010 season was Marine Services in Dolton, IL.  It seems to have nice docks without the corner dock boxes which I loved not having!  Reason I like that so much is that by not having that box, if you have a 40 foot boat, you can get a 40 foot slip!  You just back in all the way to the main pier which makes getting on and off the boat super easy for litterally anyone of any age.  Even if my kids were still crawling, they'd be able to crawl right on the boat!

Boats For Sale

The one thing which I took at face value was that the owner of the marina told me face to face that the garbage dump next door was dormant and hadn't been used in years and was a non issue.  Not really the case.  Yes, at night and on weekends, there is noone working in the dump but every morning and till 3pm, the dump has it's top layer scraped off and they add more trash to the dump.  PHEWWW!!!!  It stinks bad!  And with the Jet Stream pumping the wind in out of the west/northwest all the time, it makes the marina smell bad nearly all the time.

Boats For Sale

There really isn't much in the way of dock parties there.  But there are some late night bible worshipping groups that seem to jam some of the other docks.

If you only want to park your boat and never spend any time in the marina, it's an adequate place that will save you about 25 minutes from some nicer places down the river.

-----------------------------------Today we update the style...

1/2/2012
Just around the corner from Marine Services is a place that has well protected and well hidden slips from the river traffic.  Pier 11 has fixed height steel docks that are a challenge to pull into if you are not well experienced.  They are steel.  And can scrape up your boat if you're not careful.  Most of the people are nice and the marina staff are great people to deal with service wise as well as to work with the boaters.  They have repossessed and brokered yachts for sale.  And for that matter, some pretty good deals on boats in Chicago.  I had a problem with another boater in the marina and decided to leave one afternoon because I had found a true gem on the river!

Pier 11 Marina

Just another 4 miles down river there is a place called Fay's Point Marina which is a resort like townhouse community which has 2-3 bedroom townhouses for sale.  There is also room for more development but with the stalled economy the development is also stalled.  For the marina, there is ample parking that is well protected and hidden from all roads and visibility from virually all angles.  The marina is a single pier with 88 slips ranging in size from 35-40 feet.  Even if you have a little runabout the slip cost is incredible.  For a 40 foot slip I pay $1600 per season.  This marina has docks just like at Marine Services where there are no corner dock boxes to eat up that 4-5 feet of space at the beginning of the dock.  You can pull in all the way up to the pier and walk right on and off your boat!  It's peaceful even though you can see HWY I-57 from the docks and what's better is that there are no railroads that you have to sit and wait at to get into and out of the marina.

Fays Point Marina

Just across the river is an Ultra Foods, Aldi, Subway, Wendy's, McDonalds, Burger King, Beggars Pizza, White Castle, Dunkin Doughnuts, gas stations and lots of other businesses to get what you need to load up on supplies.

Right now, I believe that there are only 17 of the 88 slips even spoken for.  Mine included.  Tonight, I was sitting here looking at Google Earth and thinking that I should share some of the data about the time and cost to get to and from Chicago every weekend that I went boating last summer.

To get to Chicago by way of the river, going through the lock which takes about 30-45 minutes normally is a total of about 27 miles which get's you to Navy Pier by the Chicago Lock.  13 miles of that is on the lake, 14 of which is on the river at idle speeds.  On the other hand, going down the river towards Lemont, and then up the Chicago River is 40.7 miles according to google earth again.  That even is counting the little trip up the channel to the river from my Fays Point slip.  A total difference of only 13 miles.  The whole way is calm, you have to watch out for logs and other floaters in the water but you get to see a part of Chicago which not many see.

Here is the data,...  My boat is a 42 foot express cruiser with twin cummins diesel engines.  At wide open throttle (wot) she get's about 1.5 miles per gallon.  At idle speeds it's much better at about 6 miles per gallon.  Might be better, but each engine burns .5 gph at idle so it's a 1 gph burn and idle is 6 mph.  I might be off by a little but I figure 6 is a fair number to use.

So, the 13 mile lake trip on plane at wot burns 9 gallons + 14 miles at idle burns 2.3 gallons at a total cost of ($4.00/gallon diesel) $45.2 going one way...  Not bad...  If I were to go idle even out on the lake all the way to Chicago, the fuel burn would only be 4.6 gallons or $18.40 going one way!  Even better but I really love hearing the turbo's spool up and run!  It sounds like a jet engine or something like that to me.

On the other hand, if the lake is all churned up and there is an event in Chicago that I really want to attend, I can still get there going the other way which was 40.7 miles.  The time that I always seem to make up by not doing the Obrien lock and dam, I lose because I have to go through the Chicago Lock and also have to wait at the Canal Street Bridge which my boat is too tall to get under.  That usually ads at least 30 minutes.  But still, it's only 13 miles longer.  So, 40.7 / 6 = 6.78 gallons at $4.00 per gallon is $27.12 total for the one way trip.  Not a bad option if the lake is kicked up and you've got some sea sick people on board.

So all in all, I can do a weekend in Chicago for less than $150 with the generator fuel, $40 for a spot on the seawall next to the Chicago Yacht club.  I can also save some money here and there by just anchoring in the playpen or on the river before going out the lock.  You just have to know where to go to get away with it.  And no, I'm not telling where that is...

Boat Paints and Boating Accessories

Marine Paint Supplies

Bottom Paint - Applying Bottom Paint for Boats

Applying Bottom Paint for Boats

Preparation is the key when painting on any surface. Applying  bottom paint for boats is not the cleanest of jobs, but it really simple to do. Below you will find the exact steps to insure a good bottom paint job, whether you have a new boat, or a boat that has existing bottom paint on it.

Bottom Paint for Boats Preparation on Bare Fiberglass
When painting a bare fiberglass / gel coat hull for the first time, it is extremely important that all contaminants such as grease, oil, wax, salt, or other foreign material are completed removed prior to sanding or application of a Sea Hawk System. Scrub the surface with a detergent soap and stiff bristle brush.

Clean

A. Clean and de-wax fiberglass hull with S- 80 Wax N’ Grease Killer solvent based dewax. Saturate cheeseclothrag and wipe thoroughly to remove any cleaner and contaminants. Be sure to remove any residue before it dries and change rags frequently to insure contaminants are completely removed.

B. Apply S-90 De-Wax Etch & Cleaner with a maroon 3M Scotch-Brite® pad scrubbing thoroughly. Do not allow cleaner to dry on the surface and remove by flushing with water.Rinse entire surface with water and check for any beadingon the surface which will indicate that wax is still present. If necessary repeat step 2 again until the surface is contaminant- free. Choose your system below.

Sand to a uniformly frosty, dull looking surface with 80-100 grit (no finer) sandpaper, rewash with S-80 Wax N’ Grease Killer , S-90 De-Wax Etch & Cleaner

Tip: Epoxy systems on the bottom of bare fiberglass is the best way to protect your boat against blisters. It also provides added adhesion of the bottom paint to the hull. Click Here for the steps that you need to take for proper application of a marine epoxy primer (barrier coat system) to the bottom of a boat.

Bottom Paint for Boats Preparation Over Existing Bottom Paint

Clean
Clean the existing boat bottom paint with a pressure washing. If you have excess build up of growth, you can remove this by scraping and or muratic acid. Try to get all growth residue off the existing old bottom paint so that you have good adhesion of the new bottom paint.

Scuff Sand
Scuff sand to a dull looking surface with 80-100 grit (no finer) sandpaper, then rinse with water and allow to dry. If your old bottom paint is really chalky, consider giving it a more agressive sanding to insure proper adhesion of the new
bottom paint.

Apply Bottom Paint
Apply minimum of two coats of Sea Hawk bottom paint. Allow 3 to 6 hours between coats and a minimum overnight dry before launching. See the specific Technical Data Sheet for bottom paint being used. Some bottom paint may require more than 2 coats.

2012 Chicago Boat Show without my kids

I went back to the 2012 Chicago Boat without my kids and had a nice leisurely day walking around the show, meeting people and taking some great pictures of the new boat models. Really liked the 48 Cantius from Cruisers Inc.

2012 Chicago Boat Show with my kids

I did something daring today. I took my three kids all by myself to the 2012 Chicago Boat & Rv show. We only made it through the Chapparel and Formula Boats booths before my son had run off twice, hid inside of a boat compartment, and then declared that he was tired and wanted to go home. I dragged him down the first isle and back through some other boats and left. We weren't there but for a couple of hours. STRESSFULL!

THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO    $1.30 PER GALLON.

This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive.  It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton.  If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
It's worth your consideration.  Join the resistance!!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!!  Want gasoline prices to come down?

We need to take some intelligent, united action.
The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas.

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea has come up with a plan that can Really work.  Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap.  Me too!  It is currently $3.30 at Arco and Costco for regular unleaded in Salem , Oregon and climbing every week.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $2.50 - $3.25, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas!  And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How?  Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.

But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.  If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers.  It's really simple to do!  Now, don't  wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how  simple it is to reach millions of  people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people.  If each of us send it to at  least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ...  and those 300 send it to at  least ten more (300 x 10 =  3,000)... and  so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we  will have reached over THREE MILLION  consumers .
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it.....  THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people.  That's all!

(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people...  Well, let's face it, you just aren’t a mathematician.  But I am.  So trust me on this one.

How long would all that take?  If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you!  Acting together we can make a difference.

You have only the rights you are willing to fight for!

Has anyone else seen the FLYING BAYLINER YET?

Has anyone else seen this flying bayliner before?  This is bad ASS!

fishing on lake michigan

been fishing twice this year on lake michigan, what a blast! kings, coho, trout and a buddy caught a steelhead last night! whoohoo!

Forget wax, Forget Polish, It's all about the..

I've owned my current boat for almost 4 years now and have been under the assumption that the finish is just worn out.  I've tried waxes, polishes, space age compounds, and many many hours trying to get it to shine like I wanted it to.  This week I've had a break through.  I've realized that the shine I've been searching for was always inside my boat.  What I mean is that the 12 years of sun damage has been hiding my true finish!  Call me an idiot, unexperienced, novice, whatever...  I never could understand the true nature of the boat and how it existed...  Like I said earlier, I've tried a great many things to get it to shine.  This week, this guy was walking down my dock looking at the brokerage boats and making small comments about them.   I was walking the other way when he asked which boat was mine?  I told him it was the one with all the ineffective polish on it....  He took about a split second to tell me that it looked like I needed rubbing compound!!!  Rubbing compound?  Why would I want to scrape off the last bit of good finish I had on the boat??!!  Well, what we ended up realizing after using his 3M Mechanical Rubbing Compund was that the gorgeous shine I'd been longing for was always on my boat!  It was just hidden under 12 years of oxidation and sun damage.    Within just a few seconds of using his compound the shine appeared!  It was so simple, so easy, so quick!   Faster than anything I'd ever tried.

If you think of it this way, your boat is made up of many many layers.   All the rubbing compound did was remove the bad layer to expose the good layer underneath!  Of both gelcoat and also of paint (which was faded).   The boat after 3-4 years of ownership now looks like a brand new boat!!!  I'm stunned and soo satisfied with the results.  I still need to do the back of the boat and will do that soon.  But for now the Krazy Klean does a good job to make it white.  Just not shiny.  Maybe I'll have a chance to do it in the morning before the wife and kids get up.

water/rust stains on carpeted ceiling in boat

hello fellow boaters! anyone have advice as to how to remove water/rust stains from carpet? So far, I've tried Tuff Stuff and a fabric stain remover called Awesome. Well, Tuff Stuff wasnt so Tuff and Awesome wasnt so Awesome! :(   Any ideas? Thanks! Jenn.

What is the Best Color & best brand of boat canvas? Sunbrella? Top Gun? What is your suggestion?

I'm about to buy my own walking foot sewing machine because the other one we have is not quite good enough for doing boat canvas.  I've redone boat seats, bimini tops, and other smaller projects.

I'm planning on redoing my eisenglass with all canvas to make it easier and quicker to put up and take down and also so that I'm not continually damaging the plastic eisenglass windows that always seem to yellow and get all disgusting.  Plus I can't wait to be able to just fold up the sections and put them under a seat or something.  I do also still plan on making a eisenglass set as well as a total screen set.  That way I can have all the pieces for either total privacy, bug protection but still wind and air, or protection from the rain while still being able to see or whatever.  So I'm about to buy, what kind should I get?

Yes, I know, most people who do this screw it up,  I plan on it.  For what the material cost is I can screw it up many times and still save a ton over having someone else do it.  Plus what I'm looking forward to is the pride of knowing that I did it myself.

So what do you think?

What classifies a "Ski Boat"? Any body know?

Hi,

Anybody know what classifies a "Ski Boat"?  Being in Boat Sales I get asked this question all the time.  Providing it has enough power you can "ski" behind just about any boat, right?  I look forward to your response.

Thanks, Aaron (boatbouy)

Bayliner 340 Ciera sunbridge

guess I'll talk about the 2008 bayliner 340 Ciera sunbridge.

we've been boating seriously for about 10 yrs and started out with a 2455 Ciera sunbridge. nice enough boat for a starter but danged difficult to dock in any kind of wind or current...it would spin in a new york minute...

then we moved up to a Maxum 2700SCR...we got a good deal on this one concidering it was an engineering model....it was equipted with tons of extra's...6.2ltr mpi with b3 drive....4.5 kva genny...ac/heat...winch...built in gps system...it was really a great boat and would take us anywhere in the puget sound...she was easy to drive and really an awesome boat..but with 2 dogs and us...it was tough to move around with a 9.5ft beam...

so..we started looking for a bigger boat...we looked at 4winns....searay.....maxum's...you name it....we almost went with a deal at a boat show for a used 360 searay..but it wasn't a real deal per se.....just then the bottom fell out of the industry and boating prices dropped like a stone....after about 6 mos and very frustrated at the types of boats we were looking at in the used market...my wife decided to call our good friend Mac of lake union searay in bellingham wa....he tells her he's got a really nice boat that might fit our needs.....he tells us to let him get it up to bellingham..it's presently stored in a warehouse and he'll give us a call later in the week with numbers...

well...bout later in the week Mac gives us a call and tells us the numbers for the boat is 189k..(way out of our budget)...the good news is 50k is taken right off the top cuz it's a 1 yr old boat..(note..it had 1.3hrs on each engine when we got to the marina).....plus a factory incentive of 24k...then there was our trade in....valued at 32k(not what I was looking to get but sometimes you deal some at the top to get some off the bottom..or visa versa)...anyway...we get up that weekend to bellingham and the marina....

The 340 is already in the water and both engines are idling...smooth as a sewing machine...the crew is finishing off wiping the boat down and getting things running on the boat....she's gorgeous....black and white (we vowed we'd never own a black and white boat)...but this one we fell in love with.....she's long...35 ft...11.5 ft beam....roomy as hell....the crew takes us out and the only thing I can find is that there is a slight leak from the head and the throttles are completely out of adjustment and stiff....she has twin 5.7mpi engines and b3 seacore drives....

we take her out for seatrails and before we know it we're up on plane and running with huge grins all over our faces...the wife and I are just completely taken on how she handles ....we hit about 40mph and run over wakes left and right....the boat just goes bump and we're done......she didn't even feel anything we tossed at her.....when I go out on a seatrail..I like to take some wakes to see how they will take the bumps...how she takes water over the bow or across the beam....how the trottles respond..how the engines respond to throttle inputs....how the drives react to trimming...I don't like to push the speed of the engines until she's properly broken in....

once we got back from seatrails....the wife and I couldn't get the smile off our faces as we signed the papers and the sales crews paced nervously ....we get the manuals for every system and shake hands with Mac and the store manager....

the wife and I stop at a local boat shop and pick up 2 fenders for our new boat..and then go for a well deserved lunch at anthony's on the bay in bellingham....completely shocked we got such a great deal on a brand new boat....

so far the 340 has been spectacular....we had an issue with the bellows leaking in both drives ..thus requiring both to be replaced at Bayliners expense...now we're all set to go for many yrs of great boating with a wonderfully spacious boat...

so far about the only thing I've needed to do is add a tv in the midberth and some minor repairs....but overall the boat has been absolutly amazing and comfortable....and fast....did I mention how fast she is capable of???...the sales crew told me 50 mph...I didn't believe them....last time I was out alone..I decided to see what she was capable of while heading up river...there wasn't any wind...water was flat and the current was calm.....I hit the throttles and instantly jumped up to about 40mph......then as she planed out (well below 40)...the speed of the boat started increasing quickly...hit 45mph rounding the bend....48mph as I was running out of river before hitting the no wake zone....and I hadn't even started trimming the drives up ...at 4900rpm...I was running at 48mph....yep..she'd hit 50 mph with no sweat.....

I just watched this video of the Itama 75 online and just had to share it with everyone here.

Montgomery Gentry My Town song on the stereo at the Lake Conroe Boasty Event in Texas!!!

Believe it or not, a Chicago guy who loves house music, some rap, rock and roll and never liked country music came away from a Lake Conroe Texas BOASTY event as a country music fan.  So, is this country, or western or something else all together different?  Anycase, I've never liked any country song before this.

What do you think, do you like it also?

What year and size Bayliner do you have?

What year and size is your Bayliner?  Let the forum know what you have so that if someone wants to get some advice about it, they can find you here.  Or if you've also had other years and sizes let us know that as well.

I just discovered a way to find even more boat dealers and brokers close to me.

I was on google.com in their maps section.  I put in the text boat as the search term.  It gave me boat dealers, boat brokers within view of the map area and gave each of them a listing to the left, and would allow me to click the dot so I can see who it is.  This is awesome!  There are boat brokers, and dealers within my area I never knew about!

Who knew?  am I just slow on the uptack or did everyone else already know about this on google?

Why would you put a FAKE SNAKE on a boat?

I saw a boat listing which had what looked like a 4-5 foot snake in the back of the boat.   Why would someone do that?  My first thought was to scare away birds and other animals which might try to take refuge inside the boat.  The other thought is that it was a real snake and that it got itself trapped in the back of the boat and died.

So, Is it possible to keep birds, bird droppings and other unwanted animals away from a boat if there is a possible threat of a snake on board?

I've seen a boat on my dock which looks like it has an owl mounted on the very front of the bow rail.  Is this for the same effect?

Anybody have experience with something like this?  I really hate snakes, but if it works, I'll try it!

Howdy- Steve201 here

we (the wife unit and I) live and boat in the puget sound in washington state....some of the most amazing boating on the planet....we have a 35ft 2008 bayliner.....monster boat from my other ones we've owned...but loving it ...she's big...fast and roomy...can't ask for anything better....

hope to make more contributions to the site in the future...

Why they call me Popeye the Sailor Man...

Hi evereybody,

30' Hunter Sailboater here.  I'm also a powerboater.  So I like this site as well.  When i was a kid there was a kid in grade school that used to call me popeye because my dad had some old broken down wooden sailboat in the driveway.  I don't know if he was gealous or not but he helped me get the name.  I've got a small ski boat with an outboard like in my avatar but I also have a 30' hunter sailboat.  Both work well for a guy on a limited budget.

Anyways i just wanted to introduce myself since it seems that's what some others on the site are starting to do.  I've been on this site for months.  I like it.  it's fast and once you get aquinted to how this guy built it, it's very easy to make your way around.  It seems to have been built as if the builder uses the site.  I think hes dotcomd.  He seems to have the most stuff on the site and hes always the first one to post in most of the sections.

In any case, I'm Popeye the sailor man!  toot toot!!

my intro

Did you have a good time at the Lake Conroe BOASTY event?

A week ago, I was in the Houston Texas area for a BOASTY event which was an absolutly fantastic time.  Everyone started showing up early as most of them were coming from another event nearby.  We had guests from all military branches, both active and retired, both healthy and unfortunately the wounded.  All in all, it was a very complete representation of our nations military.  From the responses I got, quite everyone was just completely blown away by what we were doing.  Some thought it was a scam, some thought "how could the boaters really be doing this?"   Not even an hour into the day, the reports were of total amazement!  By dinner and the dj music which followed, most were completely satisfied that BOASTY IS REAL!

I'd love to see replies from the guests we had out there.  So let's get this thread going!

Who else wants to head up the event in their own area?

I'm currently working on spreading the word about BOASTY in my own area as well as to try and get dealers all over the country to put up a press release about the event on their service counters, bulleting boards, bathroom doors, and anywhere else their customers will see the press release.

So should anyone else like to head up an initiative to get people involved in the BOASTY event, please reply to this forum, list any contact info you'd like anyone to have to contact you about the event.

If you would like to contact me, please feel free to contact me at 630-299-6999 for the details about the event and how you can help.

Who uses an express cruiser as a fishing boat?

Does anybody out there use an express cruiser as a fishing boat?  How does your wife/husband like the fact that there is fishing gear all over the place.  I just can't think of where or how I'd put everything on the boat to make it a fishing boat.  I've never really liked eating fish as a kid, but it's growing on me.  The idea I have lately is to catch fish from the lake, cook it up and try it.  That way I'm not wasting 20 bucks on a fish dinner when I could have had steak instead.

Any experience with this?

Four Winns V408 performance chart very misleading!!!

I got my issue of Boating Magazine today and on the cover they showed the new Four Winns V408 on it.  Nice looking boat, nice galley, not nearly the room I'd expect to see on that boat, but the thing which prompted me to write is the performance chart...  Now, when I see a new boat, they are normally talking about half tank fuel, half water tank full, and one or two people.

This boat only had 1/8 of a tank of fuel, no water, and on top of that only two people on board.  They dare to post numbers and fuel burn numbers which I'd guess are supposed to make it look good.  But when i run, especially on long trips, I'll run with 3/4 to full tanks of fuel, full water, and with 5-8 people on board.  Do that, and then you'll have some numbers to post.

DO IT OVER BOATING MAG!  Test it again and get back to me!

Can anyone build me a complete hard top with a new windshield and all?

All the new boats have windshields that go all the way up to the hardtop and also have some center walk through windows as well.  My boat is a 1998 and the only thing that makes it look slightly dated, even though it still looks pretty darn new is the fact that it's just an express with a forward radar arch.  I've been thinking for some time about building my boat a new hardtop to mount on top of the arch kind of like a hat.  But lately, I'm thinking about building a completly new top with a windshield and all as part of it.  Anyone know a place that makes this kind of custom stuff?  I've found that it will cost between $4000 and $12000 to make just a hard top that will bolt on somehow but would never match the style of the boat.

However, If I were able to build a complete new hard top for the boat that looked like all the new hardtops on all the new boat lines coming out I think it would make my boat look just about brand new!  Most of these boats are between 500k and 900k for the same basic boat that I have and also have that hardtop look.  If it cost me $50k to make the hardtop it'd still be a great deal because I'd have the look and features of a new hardtop on an older boat that looked really cool!

So, does anyone know of a company that can get me started or do the whole thing?

Anyone seen the new Fairline Targe 44 Gran Turismo article in Boating titled "EASY STREET"?

It's a nice looking boat, but the thing is a 44 footer and just over $940,000.00!  If that's easy street, I'd like to know who is buying million dollar 40 foot boats.  I mean really!?  It must be those people who made millions in the stock market from all the high gas prices of these past few years.

What do you guys think?

If you own a 2855 of any configuration.  post pics, talk about it, and band together with your fellow boat owners with the same appreciation for the boat.

1997-1999 Bayliner Avanti 4085eu

If you have the ever had the ever so rare opportunity to own a Bayliner 4085 Model lets network with each other.  I would like to find every one of them ever made.  I'm interested in the specs, engines, performance, modifications you've made, trips you've taken, the number of hours you have on your boat, and any other information you want to share about this model.  You can also include what make and model you upgraded from and what you liked so much about this boat.

Do any powerboaters think that the High Gas Prices are over?

I'm a sailboater.  I started out that way.  But last summer I would have thought that many people would have become sailboaters instead of power boaters.  What is your opinion about the economy and will the prices continue to go down at the pump as well as at the dock.  Anyone thinking about changing to sail power?

There are more cubic feet of livable interior space in this 25 Express than in Express Cruisers two feet longer. It's lighter, brighter and airier than any conventional trailerable cruiser. There's a full standup head compartment, and the galley is complete with stove, sink with pressurized water, refrigerator, microwave and Corian® countertop. The mid-cabin comfortably accommodates children or adults in the large berth. All this in a 25-foot trailerable cruiser that offers the highest level of standard equipment -- equipment you would pay for as options on similar cruisers.

Regal 2200 FasTrac®: ""The Chosen One""

With hundreds of models in the 19 to 22-foot sportboat segment, each using nearly identical claims, how to tell when a model truly stands apart?........ By bypassing the flowery jargon and cutting right to the chase. In the case of Regal's 2200 FasTrac, it was bred to be lighter, faster, stronger and more fuel efficient than anything before it.

"There are a lot of claims in this business, but few can back it up like 2200," says Duane Kuck, Regal's President and CEO. "This boat was designed to be the best 22-footer on the market -- best in performance, appointments, styling, quality and functionality. We don't subscribe to hype at Regal. We start with smarter engineering, and the 2200 is our answer." "The Best Performing. . ." How many boats do you know that claim this trait? At last count, all of them. There are three basic factors at work in performance and every builder has them: propulsion, hull design and weight. Since all manufacturers use the same basic powerplant packages, it leaves the latter two as key differentiators. In those categories, the 2200 wins hands down. Regal's award-winning FasTrac hull features full mid-beam step, which forces air beneath the hull when underway and reduces drag. These hydrodynamics, combined with a specially-formulated lamination schedule and composite framework enables the 2200 to run faster and deliver better fuel economy than any boat in its class.

2006 Regal 2000 Fastrac $28,900.00

Regal 2000

It's easy to get carried away with the stylish hull that marks the Regal 2000. It's distinctly stepped underneath with angular lines through the deck, which sets the boat apart from the trend toward more rounded shapes. But appearance means nothing if the design doesn't meet the performance mission.
